Folsom Falls Ranch Field Day

http://www.folsomfallsranch.com/

To help us plan for meals, please R.S.V.P. to info@ctlr.org with the number in your party that will attend.

10:30 -- 11:00 Arrival

11:00 -- 12:00 Visiting and Informal Discussion

12:00 -- 1:00 Lunch

1:00 -- 2:00 Cattle Inspection

2:00 -- 3:00 Training Steers

3:00 -- 5:00 Ranch Tour

5:00 -- dark Light meal and visiting

If you arrive earlier than 10:30, come on in; as you know we will be up early that day.  The coffee will be perking.  Before lunch we have a chance for visiting with old and new friends; be careful we may put you to work.

We have eight previously blood tested cows to submit for visual inspection to complete their requirements for CTLR registration.  This will provide attendees the opportunity to learn about what physical traits inspectors look for when evaluating cattle for evidence of impurity.

Fred and Clay Bailey have worked closely training longhorn steers for both saddle and harness.  The steers have participated in many parades and events and draw large crowds providing an excellent opportunity for advertising.  Attendees can pick up pointers on training their own steers.

Folsom Falls Ranch goes from 6200 feet to 7300 feet on Emery Peak.  We will take our pickup up over the top for any that care to join us.  If you wish to drive your vehicle it will require 4-wheel drive.  The tour will include a viewing of ancient petroglyphs.  If you would like to bring horses and/or a camper you are welcome to stay and enjoy the ranch on Sunday.  Should seasonal afternoon thunderstorms prohibit a tour Saturday, you are welcome to come back Sunday morning.

Directions:
If coming through Amarillo, Texas, continue north to Dumas, where there is an excellent Museum, Windows on the Plains, on through to Dalhart and into Clayton, NM.  Continue on 87/64 to Des Moines, NM where you will take 325 at the west edge of Des Moines to Folsom.  Just past the Folsom Museum take a right on 456.  Stay on this road until you see the 5-mile marker on your right.  Just 100 yards on your left you will see the ranch sign:  Folsom Falls Ranch. We are a quarter mile off the road.  All except our driveway is hard surface.

Please email or call us if you would like us to mail a packet of information from NM and CO on the attractions in this area as well as motel information.  Amarillo is three hours from our ranch.  There are a couple new motels on I-40 about mid-way, a Sleep Inn and Comfort that are quite new and reasonably priced.  Raton also has several motels, but it is a good idea to make reservations since this is the height of tourist season.  Fuel will be cheaper in Amarillo; however it’s a good idea to top off in Clayton before heading to the ranch.  Once in New Mexico, Watch Your Speed!!!!
